PET is becoming more and more popular in Bolivia. Glass bottles are still used, especially for Coca-Cola, Fanta and Sprite in small bottles, but bigger quantities (1.5 litres or more) of carbonated and non-carbonated beverages are sold only in PET bins.
In 2006 up to 30 millions PET bottles were sold in Bolivia. That is one reason for the huge amount of plastics in the domestic waste: nowadays almost 10% of all waste in Bolivia is plastics (including PET).
