Challenges / Outlook
The upwards trend of PET recycling is uninterrupted. The upwards trend will continue in the next few years.
The success is also to be attributed to the constant extension of public services. Voluntary collection points are continuously being built in offices, schools, train stations, sports centres, leisure events and many other locations. A total of over 3,000 operations for the separate collection of PET drinks bottles were gained in the last year alone. PET-Recycling Switzerland wants to keep to the voluntary collection system and is fighting for the continuous expansion of public services. In total over 26,000 PET collection points are operated in Switzerland.
Carelessly throwing waste on the ground or leaving it lying about is called littering, which is increasingly becoming more of a problem in public spaces. Many communities are searching for suitable measures to crack down on littering. Together with the Igora community for aluminium recycling, PET-Recycling Switzerland founded the community of interest for a cleaner environment (Interessengemeinschaft für eine saubere Umwelt, IGSU). They are dedicated to fighting littering together with towns, communities and companies and therefore more cleanliness, recycling and environmental protection.
