Sorting

All collected PET drinks bottles are sorted by machine or by hand according to colour and quality in one of the six logistics centres and pressed into balls that weigh 200kg to 300kg.

Electronic sorting
In Frauenfeld and Ostermundigen, Bern the currently most modern centres are operated. Here the bottles are sorted according to size and colour and waste is recognised and separated in a fraction of a second. In around five milliseconds sensors carry out up to 6,000 measurements per bottle. In this way a cleanliness grade of 95 to 99.8% is achieved.

The PET drinks bottles which have been pressed into balls are transported from the logistics centres to the recycling plants.
